Goodbye SAD Diet
Hello Alkaline Angels!
I took a new direction with today’s vlog because of your wonderful suggestions from last week! Our focus this Friday is the fuel we put in our mouths each day. It’s a big topic to cover in one vlog, which is why it is twice as long as usual–and I only skimmed the surface! I hope that this vlog installment will tickle your brain cells and inspire you to ask questions the next time you visit the grocery store or make your next meal. It’s all about small steps! What small change could you implement today to create a healthier and happier you through the food you choose to nourish your body?
Here are some of the helpful resources I mention in the vlog:

LOL at the magic chicken :-)
Thanks SO much for your advice- I remember you once saying: we’ve got to meet our bodies halfway. That’s what I’ve been doing. Although I am not a vegan, I now buy about 80% organic, 100% of the meat I eat (once or twice a week)organic, included green juices and smoothies, and greatly reduced dairy.
My one ‘problem’is sugar- I find it so hard to cut out (chocolate anyone?). The reason is quite simple- my health challenge is extreme fatigue and sugar picks me up and gives me immediate energy. Of course I know I end up worse after the sugar ride is over, but tell my mind and body that during a craving…
But well, overall I am very happy with the changes. Green juice is the best!
Thank you for this, Kris! I love that you note that slowly changing one’s diet is best for most people. I’ve slowly changed my diet over a number of years and I’m loving it! I also love that you focus on the pH of a diet. That’s such a great way of thinking about it. I’m vegan and gluten-free but that doesn’t always mean that my diet is low in acidity. I’ve been trying to increase my raw foods for increased health but instead you’ve inspired me to increase the alkaline foods in my diet. Thank you!
Oh, and I’m SO excited about your book! Hope we can get it over here in the UK.
xxxx
Kris, I just have to say that u have been a great help to me. I am currently a vegetarian. Thank you for your Vlogs they are helping me so much. I was disgnosed with Bronchoalveolar Carcinoma Mucinous, lower left lung removed. This is what made me change my eating habits and become vegetarian, however I’m not satisfied staying here. So again, thank you because you are and continue to be an inspiration to so many especially me!!!
Much Love
Vicki the Veghead!!!
Kris – I’m definitely on the “turtle power train”. I have been transitioning slowly and I think its because I’m overwhelmed by all the info. out there. Thanks for giving us the ok to proceed slowly. I’m really looking forward to your new book. I love the longer vlog and am interested in seeing more of them.
Awesome Vlog, girl! Hubby and I finally watched “Food Inc.” the other night – it sure did resonate with me. Love the idea of taking things slowly – so far, so good – I have upped my greens and green juices and tried to really work on my sugar intake – baby steps…. :) Can’t wait for your book – oh and I am using that dry brush that hangs on the bathroom door daily now! LOL
Love ya – J
Can’t wait for the book Kris. I’ll be at Omega Inst this weekend so the good food transition will be easy for a few days!
LOL, I love Magic Chicken!!! And his SQUEEE! :)
I just sent this to a few friends that were recently asking about PH! Thanks! XOXO
Hi Kris! Great blog, love your energy…I’ve been a vegan for a few months now and its good for me watch videos like yours and read articles and book regularly about health to remind me why I’m doing this. Looking forward to your new book. :)
Suger was mentioned in a couple of the comments above, so I just wanted to make everyone aware of the miracle, plant-based sugar substitute called ‘Stavia.’ Stavia has allowed me to eliminate nearly all the sugar from my diet. I can’t tell the difference between Stavia and real sugar. I buy it in powder form from the health food store and I grow it in my herb garden. Stavia has been a real blessing for me — it allows me to satisfy the occasional sweet tooth with no worries about the added calories, inflammation, and blood sugar spike that regular sugar creates.
Your vlogs ROCK! Off to dry brush now and find a rubber chicken :-) LOVE YOU!
OK. Just to be honest, I ordered a chicken sandwhich from Bertucci’s after this blog and washed it down with a diet coke. It was GREAT!
Kris, I loved this vlog!! Going vegan was one of the best choices I ever made. On another note, i cannot wait to read your new book. How will I contain my excitement until January ;)
Hi Kris! Thank you for these healthaliscious vLog posts! I love ‘em. It’s a big dose of sunshine (YOU!) and health wisdom all in one. Very much looking forward to your book, to buy and put alongside your first book! You just plain old rock. –Robin
Thank you Kris … have just been absorbing Dr Servan-Schreiber’s words and along with yours am reaffirmed to staying the course with my diet. You are such a source of strength to me …. Your fellow survivor and fan!!
Greatly enjoyed this vlog. You’re a hoot (or a cluck?)! Anyway, enough of that corniness. Really, this kind of information is so helpful and I eat it up!
This is the BEST Vlog Ever!
You are right! Slow and easy wins the race.
Keep up the great work! :)
Kris, thank you for sharing your knowledge, but especially for sharing your inspiring spirit – let’s call it your turtle power this week :)
I’m vegan and low gluten and sugar, but I struggle with eating for alkalinity as much as everyone else, so I really appreciate hearing your thoughts!
I like to veganize/customize a chart with foods’ pH levels so I can refer to that when I’m feeling uninspired.
Lately I’ve found that “adding” a consistent yoga practise to my “diet” has helped me to respect my body stronger and less stressed out body by nourishing it with greens and power grains!
Also, Alicia Silverstone’s new book (I forget what it’s called) is great for macrobiotic vegan recipes and tips, and it follows your “turtle power” philosophy in a really inspiring and forgiving way.
Good luck as you take the last steps to publishing your new book. Can’t wait!
Add me to the choir. I love your vlog and everything else. The changes you’ve talked me into making in my life are incredible. Can’t wait for your new book.
You are just the BEST! Your positive, beautiful vibration shines right out of my laptop and into my world. I love you, Kris!
Hi, I am continually bothered by the fact that you assume everyone is too acid, and that an all plant based diet is good for everyone. I was a vegetarian for years and did everything correctly, and was never more sick and tired in all my life! Have you ever read about Metabolic Typing? Some people do not do well on vegetarian diets, and it can actually do them more harm than good. I am a nutritionist, and am very versed in this. I do not like the slaughter of innocent animals, and don’t like that I need to eat them occasionally to feel good, but that is the way it is. I am very healthy, and was very unhealthy eating a totally plant based diet. Now, with that being said, I too eat a lot of raw, and green. I feel that you are influencing a lot of people in a one size fits all solution, and it is a bit irresponsible. What worked for you, may not work for the masses. I suggest you read anything by Harold Kristal, or William Kelly, both Pioneers of this information. Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez is doctor who works with these findings with people in New York City who have terminal caner diagnoses. He is very successful and does not use this approach. I have held back a long time to write this, but I can’t help it as it is just rigid! I had breast cancer, and am doing fine! Thank you, Tara Jeffery
Wouldn’t it be great if everyone took responsibility for their OWN health? Education and getting the info out to people in a way they can understand it is so important. So is approaching nutrition holistically in respectfully of each persons own unique biological make-up. I am thankful for the references here to investigate other peoples findings and work in the nutritional field and its great to read others thoughts and opinions – I love the emphasis on de-stressing! Thank you Kris x
Thanks Kris, I loved your latest blog.

Kris,
The magic chicken was a total
HOOT!
Love the Vlog!
Cindy xoxo
Thank you for the longer video. That is even better. Even more smiles : ) I look forward to reading your new book and watching more of your vlogs. Keep up the great work that you are doing!
Dearest Kris,
Your vlogs are soooo helpful and incredible and I just can’t get enough of you. It is such a treat to see you and hear your message every Friday!Thank you for all you do and for changing my life!
I can’t wait for your new book! can’t wait….
Love and light to you, xoxo
Awesome message about change Kris… you help everyone to feel it is attainable. For me, it was a 5 year process to cut out allergens, then introduce more veggies and greens, then cut out sugar and the last bit of meat… evolution, not revolution! Thanks a million, Michelle S.
test for Ron
Hey there Sunshine! Excellent Vlog. I am looking forward to your diet book. Thanks for all of the helpful tips.
You look stunning! Im always inspired to make my green drink after watching your VLOG – whoop whoop!
Thank you so much! I have recently been attempting to eat more alkaline but wasn’t sure where to start. Thanks so much for the resources.
I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, but you are freakin adorable!!!
Thanks Kris!
Awesome vlog Kris! Great advice. I went completely vegan over 1 year ago and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. The main reason I went vegan was for animal cruelty reasons but the more I learned about what an amazing effect the vegan diet has on your health I was even more determined to stay committed! Peace, love and vegan power! xoxoxo
awesome video. i don’t know much about pH/acidity/etc etc so the link to your ‘refresher course’ was really helpful! i actually just printed out a list of alkaline forming foods & a list of acid forming foods and i’m going to tape it to my fridge. scary because there’s so much on that acid list i eat all the time thinking it was totally healthy (spinach? soymilk?). oh well…i won’t beat myself up on it, but i’m going to try what you say here and start slow, cutting out one thing and replacing it with another.
i think first i’m going to cut out my bagel & cream cheese in the morning. SO bad for me and i end up feeling sick anyway! i’m going to go to the store tonight and grab some oatmeal and yummy stuff to put on it! :)
Michelle – it’s not bad to eat acid foods in fact we need acid foods in order to get all the nutrition we need. So don’t think about cutting them all out – think about reducing the amount of acidic foods you eat and increasing the amount of alkaline foods you eat – make sense? If I were going to eat a bagel with tofu cream cheese I’d have a big green drink with it. If I wanted beans and rice I’d complement them with a salad. The problem we have is that the SAD diet is almost exclusively acidic and few ppl following the SAD diet are eating their veggies, making green drinks, green smoothies or shooting back wheatgrass. Hope this helps…
Thanks for all the love everyone! xo Kris
Great vlog, Kris!!
Excellent vlog! I’ve been a vegetarian for twenty years….but am having a difficult time transitioning to a vegan diet. I will take your advice and take it slower.
I recently gave up white processed sugar….I guess I was addicted. And also gave up processed carbs/ food. The detox/ withdrawal wasn’t pleasant for a week….but I turned the corner yesterday and have never felt better now! Hooray.
I am a photographer and was taking pics of neglected cats/kittens at a farm last weekend. I was apalled to see that it was a “veal farm”…it was sad and haunting. Anyway…I digress.
Great vlog.
Looking forward to your next one.
Hi Kris, This is something that I have been playing with for a few years now… but every time I think “vegan” I think of soy products, soy cheese, tofurkey, etc. I guess I am struggling with the idea that a vegan diet is free of processed badness. I have done so much work on getting my body free of crap – but the animal products are still there. What are your thoughts on karmic eating? Being conscious of the treatment of the animals you eat… Just wondering.
I love what you are doing, trying to change the world, one person at a time.
xoxoxo

Wow, my first post on any site ever—-how exciting.
Kris, First let me say I have admired you for years and I tell everyone I know about you, your book, your DVD, your website, etc…you are an absolute ray of sunshine and an inspiration!! :)
I have flirted with the idea of becoming vegan for years now and although I have read a lot of books, I still have no idea what to do….I realize that sounds silly, but I am a ridiculously picky eater and I honestly don’t care for many of the foods….peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives, tofu, most kinds of beans, zucchini, eggplant, celery, etc….yuck, yuck, yuck. It’s so depressing and frustrating that I don’t like so many foods. My taste buds keep me overweight and consuming animal products….not healthy!!
Any ideas for those of us who would like to be vegan, but are picky eaters?
Thanks!
picky eater
:)
Picky eater – first, welcome to the blog commenting world! Second, get yourself some groovy veg cookbooks. Those foods alone are boring (I agree) but in combination, with spices, sauces, flavor… yum…. Find a wonderful veg restaurant where the chef is creative and try some stuff. Don’t just go to the local 1970′s granola hut. Start hunting vegs! XO!
where you can buy the best watches at lowest price?
some friends tell me the watches from the web http://www.rolexclassic.com/ have good quality and their service is the best
Here you will see rolex watches ,omega watches, breitling watches, chanel watches, cartier watches and so on.
What do you think? Have you ever gone to the web?what do you think of it?
jesus. the only think i could focus on through the entire video, kris, was your insanely gorgeous skin. aside from the obviously amazing benefits of eating so many veggies, what skincare products or makeup do you use? totally off-topic, but still…you’re GORGE! i’ve been looking for some new products and after scouring all the alba and dr. haushaka at whole foods i’m still not sure what to get.

Thank you. This was a great vlog and really resonates with me. I had been vegetarian for a long time. Then slipped off the wagon. Read the china study and lots of other books. Do juice and vegan some days but something is holding me back and I think I know what it is. laziness. but I’ll go slow as I spend most of my time giving myself a hard time. which STOPS today. thank you Kris. I think you are fab and have thought me so much xxx
